Our Legacy: The SRF Story

At SRF, our story is one of vision, values, and transformation – rooted in a legacy that has shaped Indian industry and inspired generations.

Foundations of Excellence

Sir Shri Ram (1884–1963)

A pioneering industrialist, laid the cornerstone of our legacy. Joining DCM Ltd. in 1909, he transformed it into a diversified industrial powerhouse, producing textiles, chemicals, electric motors, and more. His leadership extended beyond business – he was President of FICCI in 1930, knighted by King George VI in 1941, and a key architect of the Bombay Plan (1944-45), which helped shape India’s economic future.

A passionate advocate of education, Sir Shri Ram founded two of India’s most prestigious institutions: Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in 1926 and Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) in 1956. His legacy lives on in the thousands of lives these institutions continue to shape.

A Visionary Successor

Dr. Bharat Ram (1914–2007)

Son of Sir Shri Ram, carried forward this legacy with distinction. As Chairman and MD of DCM Ltd. from 1958, he held several esteemed positions, including President of FICCI (1965), Chairman of Indian Airlines (1967), and the first Asian President of the International Chamber of Commerce (1969). In 1972, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to Indian industry.

In 1970, Dr. Bharat Ram founded Shri Ram Fibres, which was predominantly a technical textiles company. With a bold vision, he led its diversification into chemicals in 1989. This marked a turning point, and in 1990, Shri Ram Fibres became SRF Limited, reflecting its evolving identity and expanding ambitions.

A Legacy of Leadership

Arun Bharat Ram

Chairman Emeritus, has been the driving force behind SRF’s transformation into a global chemicals conglomerate. From its humble beginnings in 1974, Arun’s leadership over five decades steered SRF through strategic expansions, product diversification, and global market entry.

Under his guidance, SRF became a research-driven, future-ready organisation employing over 7,000 people. His commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community engagement has left an indelible mark on SRF’s culture and values.

On March 31, 2022, Arun Bharat Ram stepped down as Executive Chairman, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire our journey forward.

SRF Today

From a technical textiles company to a diversified, global leader in chemicals, SRF’s journey is a testament to the power of purpose, perseverance, and people. Our legacy is not just about what we’ve built – it's about what we continue to stand for.

This is SRF. A story still being written.
